Deadly Winter Storm Affects 60 Million: Multiple Deaths, 189 Crashes, Tornadoes, Avalanche Fatality

Death toll climbs to 10 as winter storm prompts weather alerts for 60 million people

McLEAN, Va. – The death toll rose to 10 from weather-related crashes and more than 60 million were under weather alerts Monday as a second storm pounded much of the Midwest and East with snow, ice and a wintry mix.

Four fatalities were reported in Missouri, three in Nebraska, two in Indiana and one in Kansas. The National Weather Service posted winter weather advisories – possible hazardous conditions expected – for more than 53 million people and winter storm warnings to nearly 6 million more.

A storm warning means, among other things, that at least 4 inches of snow or 1/4 inch of ice likely are on the way.

Missouri was a prime target for the misery: Snow Sunday from the first storm forced the State Highway Patrol to handle more than 1,000 stranded motorist and vehicle crash calls. Three deaths occurred Sunday night when a driver lost control and overturned in St. Francois County in the eastern part of the state, authorities said.

The KC Missouri Fire Department said more than 40 traffic collisions were reported between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Multiple tractor-trailers jackknifed across the region.

Through a series of divine interventions, God began calling David into the full-time ministry in 2006. At the time he was a legal service broker and on an ambitious path. Although he had other plans, David started responding to God’s call. He prayed, “Lord, if it isn’t your will I succeed, please don’t allow me to.” Listen to a brief portion of David’s story of how God led him where he is today.
